2 oz. unsweetened chocolate
1 quart scalded milk
2 c. bread, cubed
1/3 c. sugar
1/4 c. melted butter
2 eggs, slightly beaten
1/4 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla
Preheat oven to 325° F. Butter a 2 qt baking dish
Break chocolate into bits, melt into milk, stirring until smooth.
Add bread crumbs, set aside to cool. When lukewarm, add remaining ingredients. (You're adding eggs, so if the mixture is too warm, the eggs will start to cook...you get "Egg Drop Pudding.")
Mix well, pour into the buttered dish, bake for 50 min. or until set.
On scalding milk:
Heat slowly in a small pan, until tiny bubbles appear around the edges, but before milk boils up.
