1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
1 1/2 cups strained honey
1/2 cup light brown sugar
1/2 cup butter
1 full cup evaporated milk (do not dilute)
1/4 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla extract
Liebler family recipe. A decadent, traditional candy recipe.
You will need: a candy thermometer
Blend sugar, honey, salt, boil until soft ball stage when tested in cold water.
Slowly add milk (this is important), then pieces of butter so boiling does not stop. Cook to hard ball stage when tested in water or 254 degrees F.
Remove from heat, add vanilla extract, turn into buttered pan.
(I once added vanilla when it was still on the heat, it bubbled up over the edge of the pan with a whoosh and got all over the stove. What a mess!)
When cold cut into squares, wrap each piece in wax paper.
