1 cup brown sugar, firmly packed
1/2 cup butter
2 Tbsp. light corn syrup
2 tart apples, peeled and sliced
5 eggs
1.5 cups milk
1 tsp. vanilla extract
1 loaf French bread
Directions:
Note: Recipe is originally from the Mainstay Inn in Cape May, NJ, but the recipe was taken from the Connecticut Cooks III cookbook made to benefit the CT chapter of the American Cancer Society. Though, I do enjoy Cape May! ;-)
Combine sugar, butter and corn syrup in saucepan. Cook over medium heat until mixture becomes "syrupy." Pour mixture into a 13 x 9 x 2 inch baking dish. Spread apple slices over this. Slice bread into 3/4 inch slices and place on top of apple slices. Whisk remaining ingredients together and pour over bread slices. Cover and refrigerate overnight. Bake, uncovered, at 350 for 40 minutes. Serve with spicy apple syrup. Enjoy! -Diana
