3/4 c. chopped onion
1 lb. ground beef
1/4 tsp. garlic powder
3 Tbsp. olive oil
32 oz. tomato puree
12 oz. tomato paste
1 c. water
1 Tbsp. sugar
1 1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. pepper
1 bay leaf (not to be eaten!)
dash cayenne pepper
1 1/2 tsp. oregano
Directions:
Saute onion in olive oil until clear, add ground beef. Drain fat.
In a large pan, combine onion, beef, garlic powder, tomato puree, tomato paste, water, sugar, salt, pepper, bay leaf, pepper, and oregano. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat, let simmer 45 minutes, or until of desirable consistency. Remove bay leaf before serving. Serve over pasta.
Barb lived next door to my parents before I was born, so when I ask my mom to make "real spaghetti sauce," this is what I mean. I love this stuff. I could eat it like it's soup.
