Swedish Oatmeal Cookies

1/2 lb (2 sticks, 16 Tbsp) butter
1 1/4 c sugar
1 3/4 c flour
1 tsp baking powder
1 tsp cinnamon
1 1/4 c oatmeal
decorative sugars (if desired)
Yield: about 3 doz. cookies
Preheat oven to 400°F.
Beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add egg and beat slightly to combine.
In a separate bowl, sift together flour, baking powder, and cinnamon. Add to batter gradually.
Stir in oatmeal.
Roll cookie dough into balls and then place on baking sheet. Press lightly to spread into more of a cookie shape.
Press decorative sugars into the cookies if desired.
Bake in the middle of the oven for 8-10 minutes, until bottoms begin to brown.
