Colonial Day Molasses Cookies


Ingredients:
3/4 c. butter, softened 1 egg 1/4 c. molasses 2 c. flour 1 c. sugar 1 tsp. baking soda 1 tsp. baking powder 1 tsp. ground cinnamon 1 tsp. ground ginger 1/2 tsp. ground nutmeg 1/4 tsp. ground cloves 1/4 tsp. allspice 1/2 c. sugar for rolling
Directions:
Colonial Day recipe. Yield: 3 doz. cookies Preheat oven to 375°F. In a large bowl, beat together butter, egg, and molasses. In a separate bowl, combine remaining ingredients: flour, sugar, baking soda, baking powder, cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, cloves, allspice. Add dry ingredients to butter mixture and beat until smooth and well combined. Form dough into 1-inch balls (about the size of a walnut). Roll in granulated sugar. Place 2 in. apart on ungreased baking sheets. Bake at 375°F for 9-11 min., or until done (no longer shiny on top, a little bit brown on the bottoms). Cool on wire racks.
