1 pkg. cook-n-serve chocolate pudding mix
3 c. milk
Cool Whip for topping
1 graham cracker crust
Finally, a pie that really is as easy as pie! Celebrate Pi Day (3/14) with a pie that's quick and easy.
We're following the directions for "pie" on the back of the pudding mix box. If yours has different directions, follow them.
Pour the pudding mix into a medium saucepan. Add a little bit of the milk and whisk to combine. (Think of it like how you make hot cocoa from the mix - first you make a slurry of the dust and the liquid. Then when you add the rest of the liquid, no lumps.) Slowly add the rest of the milk.
Heat the milk mixture over medium heat until the mixture comes to a boil. The directions typically say, "stir constantly." If you don't stir it enough, the bottom will turn to pudding first and you'll get lumpy pudding, or worse burned-on-the-bottom-of-the-pan pudding. Ick. Stir often.
As the mixture heats, these little dark bits float to the top. Stir it thoroughly to keep it from getting lumpy. Once it starts getting close to the boil, the consistency will get thicker, more like a sauce and less like chocolate milk.
Remove the saucepan from the heat. Allow to stand 5 minutes.
Get the graham cracker crust ready. Pour the pudding into the crust.
Refrigerate until fully set.
Just before serving, garnish with Cool Whip.
