1 double pie crust
6 medium Granny Smith, Cortland or fresh MacIntosh apples
1 1/3 cups sugar
1/3 cup flour
2 Tbsp. butter
1 tsp. cinnamon
dash nutmeg
milk and extra sugar for top crust
Directions:
As American as apple pie. A slice of home, serve it with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
Preheat oven to 425 degrees F.
Place one pie crust in a pie plate, prick the bottom with a fork.
Peel and core apples. Slice the apples thickly (six to eight slices per apple) and place in the crust.
Mix sugar and flour and pour over the apples. Cut butter into dots and dot apples with butter. Sprinkle the cinnamon and nutmeg over the apple mix.
Lay top crust on pie and seal, pinching the edges together - fluting edges. Brush top crust with milk and sprinkle with sugar. Cut vent holes. Cover crust edges with aluminum foil to prevent burning.
Place in the 425 degree oven for 10 minutes.
Reduce heat to 375 F and cook pie an additional 45 - 50 minutes or until bubbling.
Remove foil for the last ten minutes of baking. Cool on wire rack. Enjoy! -Diana
